Outdoor Activities on Kangaroo Island
On Discover we're constantly amazed by the number of people who tell us that they have never visited Kangaroo Island. There's something special about "The Island", its a magical place which is instantly captivating. Our favourite experiences whilst shooting Discover to date include watching the penguins return to their rookeries at night in Penneshaw, scuba diving with Leafy Sea Dragons on the North Coast, Fishing from American River, Quad-Biking at Vivonne Bay, Sand-boarding the Little Saharas and hiking through the pristine beauty of Flinders Chase National Park.
Also on Discover we like to seek out unusual tourism products and we've uncovered some very unique places in our island travels, such as the Kangaroo Island Health Retreat run by the insprational Sue McCarthy. In the warmer months, the stunning island beaches will beckon but there are simply too many to choose from! We list Hanson Bay, Stokes Bay, Vivonne Bay, Snellings Beach, Island Beach and Western River Cove among our favourite coastal places. Kangaroo Island is also one of the world's great wilderness destinations, nearly a third of its land is protected as national and conservation parks, making it a nature lover's paradise.
The biggest mistake that many people make when planning a trip to Kangaroo Island is that they underestimate its size; this island is BIG! Allow yourself three days minimum for a quick overview, however we suggest at least six days if you want to see the some of the best attractions that this amazing region has to offer.
