Food & Wine in the Clare Valley
Many people refer to the Clare Valley as the "Tuscany" of South Australia, and it's an apt descriptor. Charming villages, rolling hillsides covered in vines and a quiet ambience make Clare a tempting holiday option. Some stories we've covered in this region for Discover include cycling the Reisling Trail, visiting the local cellar doors, exploring the maze at Mintaro and the history of Martindale Hall, taking a Trail Ride on horseback and combing the antique stores of Burra for a bargain.
In the cooler months the Clare Valley region is the place for romance as couples rush to book their favourite bed and breakfast property for a fireside escape. These days the Clare Valley is perhaps better known for its wines but historically it played a large part in the formative years of South Australia. Vistors can investigate the rich mining heritage of towns such as Burra and Kapunda as they travel through the valley.... As the tourist brochures say "the pace is as gentle as the views.. drink it in as you drink the wine of the Clare Valley"
