Information
In the late 1800s rail travel was a fast and efficient means of transport but our first trams weren't always a huge success. Horse Trams were commonplace in the 1880s but many complained about the slow pace, overcrowding, uncomfortable ride and offensive behaviour of young intoxicated lads who were particularly drawn to the new mode of travel. Horse trams were used until 1908 when Adelaide became the last city in Australia to convert trams to electric operation.
